Tips From A Professional Wedding Photographer For Maximising Value by Matthew Scott

Matthew Scott is a professional, award-winning wedding photographer based in Brighton and Sussex. Over the years he’s seen more weddings than he can count and he’s here to share his tips for maximising your money spent on a photographer and avoiding classic pitfalls of wedding photography.

Get A Professional

It might be tempting to skimp when it comes to photography for your wedding, I get it, weddings are expensive. But the photographs you get from that day will outlive even the nicest of chocolate fountains and will be looked at for years to come. So when uncle Dereck with his DSLR offers to do it for free, I advise you to politely decline.

Not least because, uncle Dereck will be a guest with friends and family in attendance and he’ll want an hors d'œuvreor two, my point is that a professional will be there to work. As well-intentioned as a …

The Importance of an Engagement Shoot

Engagement sessions are one of my favourite things to photograph. It’s a great opportunity to get to know my couples before their wedding and see how they interact with each other. A lot of people don’t feel comfortable being photographed. This gives them an idea of how I work and puts them at ease before the most important day of their lives!

Reasons I think engagement shoots are great and a must have….

A relaxed and happy couple make for much nicer natural images of the two of you. Remember, your photographer will be with you for HOURS on your wedding day capturing all those intimate moments and preserving one of the most emotional days of your life. Not only does this give me the opportunity to get to know you but you also get to know me!

 Ladies̷…

Karen was busy getting ready with her bridesmaid and a few close friends, also looking quite relaxed and all enjoying themselves. I took pictures of some of the details that Karen had scattered around as well as the shoes and her beatiful wedding dress which I hung in a recessed window space so as to also encompass the beautiful sea and coastline in the background.

Once Karen was in her dress we took s…

A Truro Cathedral Wedding

By Jon O'Connell Photography Edward and Jessica’s Truro Cathedral Wedding Edward and Jessica were married in early August 2016 and I had been asked to be their wedding photographer Cornwall. After looking at my previous wedding day photography, Edward and Jessica had decided they liked my documentary style and ability to capture the emotions and essence of a wedding day in a natural and unposed way.  They had stipulated many times that they only wanted minimal posing and mainly for the family formals.  The rest of the day, my aim was to capture everyone having fun and hopefully a few tears of joy. Edward and Jessica’s wedding took place at Truro Cathedral which is an absolutely stunning place for a Cornwall wedding photographer to document. The sun was shining as I headed to the bride and her maids for the preperations.  They had a beautiful house with tall ceilings and big windows allowing for plenty of opportunities for pictures…
