Whether you are planning a luxury wedding which will cost £500,000 or a wedding which will cost £20,000, the process is the same. You may have read that and be saying how can it be the case? Having planned weddings and events around the world on varying budgets, I can tell you there are actually quite a lot of similarities. So, I have selected a few for you to consider.

Make It Personal

You can have the biggest budget, but if your selections are not personal then you will look back on your special day and have no connection to it.

Every choice, from your flowers to your main course should be personal to you as a couple. The venue co-ordinator will take you around your selected venue and probably show you a location such as the staircase and say every bride has a photograph taken here, or possibly show you the ballroom and tell you that is where you will have your ceremony. If you like what they have suggested that is fine as you will have it dressed uniquely to you. However, if you do exactly the same as has been done in the past then you are not being unique to yourselves, and in essence having the same wedding as every other couple who have been talked into making those decision by the venue co-ordinator.

I have always taken price in making every wedding and event that I plan personal. My focus is always on understanding my bride and groom and what they want. This ensure their day is personal to them and their vision comes to life. So, make sure everything about your days is personal to you. Don’t settle with being told what you will do. Ask what options are available to you.

Make Your Day An Experience

A luxury wedding is about making everyone feel welcome, considered and entertained. These are qualities that can translate to any wedding or event, regardless of your budget.

I always look at the organisation and details required to make the wedding or event possible. In doing this, I am able to put myself in the guest’s shoes so to speak and look at every aspect of the day. Look at when your guests will interact with each other and the celebration and decide how you want it to be. Is there an element you could possibly add at each of these times to make it more of an experience? It doesn’t have to take a lot of time or cost you a small fortune. You could have entertainment, but equally you could just have a little note or sign. If is about putting yourself in the position of your guests and thinking how to make it that little bit more special.

Tantalise The Senses

You could have entertainment, but equally you could just have a little note or sign. If is about putting yourself in the position of your guests and thinking how to make it that little bit more special.

Your wedding is an opportunity for you to treat your guests to an array of sights, sounds and smells. It is a production, with every step a different element, or in theatre terms, an act, so make the most of it.

Look at each act on its own merits and what it comprises of. What is required to happen to make the act work. Whether it is your food or entertainment, for me, it’s anything and everything that tantalises your senses. It’s the look, sound, smell and feel of the act that all work together to make it perfect. The look of the food on your plate when it is serves, the smell of the food as it wafts from the plate, the texture of it as you hear the pasty crack beneath your knife when you cut it and the crunch as it breaks up in your mouth.

It is the attention to detail that puts your wedding or event above others and gives it a feeling of luxury. A good example, is having your guests greeted and taken to their seat, rather than having to find their seat on their own. It is details like this which turn an element into an experience that clients in the luxury end desire.

One Element Is Not More ImportThan Any Other

Couples often think they need to splash out on the band/DJ and photographer; however, they are not more important than any other element of the celebration. When you are setting your budget and deciding where to allocate the funds, you may think you should spend more money on the main meal and be more economical with the canapés, as you think it is more important.

Think of elements more in terms of each act for the day and you will get a different impression. You and your guests will have had a long day. Your guests will have been standing around waiting for you to have your photographs taken. You may have been too nervous or busy to have eaten breakfast and you will all probably be famished. So, if you are wondering whether something is important ask yourself, would it matter to you if you were at someone’s celebration? It is that thought which will turn your wonderful day, into a luxury wedding day.

Create a Thought Induced Timeline

It is your day and no one else’s, so don’t just copy a timeline from the internet. Think about what you want and need on the lead up to and on the day itself and create a timeline based on that.

My services are bespoke to your needs and wants. That means, any time lines I create are always tailored to my client’s individual needs and wants. It will be based on your wedding, the number of guests you are having, what your expectations are and how long you have to make your vision a reality. I will tell you what needs to be done each month.

On your special day, you will have someone other than yourself managing and coordinating your acts, to ensure every element goes according to plan.

The thing to take away from this, is you need to ensure everything is accounted for on your timeline and there is a flow to it. You don’t want your guests sitting around twiddling their thumbs for an hour and half while you have your post wedding photographs taken. Turn the time into an experience for everyone.

Take Time Off

If you are planning your own wedding, you do not want to feel exhausted on the day so dedicate some time off on your timeline a week or two prior to the big day. You have dedicated so much time, effort and money to your special day, so you want to enjoy it.

You don’t want to be panicking about putting the finishing touches to the personally made name cards the week of the wedding, when they could have been done weeks or months before, so why leave them to the last minute?

You have done everything possible to ensure your luxury wedding day is how you dreamed it would be, so if something isn’t exactly perfect in your eyes, it will only be your eyes which will notice. I know that is a difficult concept, but when your day arrives, I doubt even your eyes would see an imperfection.

Money Cannot Buy Everything

I know a lot of people think that if they had all the money in the world then everything would be perfect, however that is not the case. Money cannot buy love or make the perfect atmosphere.

The two of you have found love and are celebrating that on your special day. The best thing about a wedding is seeing the love and happiness in the room. Yes, the exquisite food, wine, entertainment and all the other fabulous elements will make a wonderful celebration, however the smiles and happiness of everyone in attendance is something that money cannot buy.

I have planned weddings where the most luxurious wedding has been planned and the celebration has been truly wonderful with smiles seen all around. Unfortunately, I have also planned a wedding where there were family rifts that I was not aware of and could clearly be seen in the anxious face of the bride whenever she saw the feuding family members glaring at each other

I love planning weddings and events and seeing the vision become a reality. However, the part I love more than anything, is seeing the looks in the loving couples’ eyes as they see each other for the first time on their wedding day. The smiles that creep onto their faces as their dreams turn into reality. Those are things that money will never be able to buy and cannot be duplicated or faked.

Trends

Trends can be stunning, but they are just that. They come and go by their very nature. If they mean something to you by all means use them, however don’t be a dedicated follower on your wedding day.

When you are deciding whether or not to follow the trend consider if you think you will still like it in 20, 30, 40+ years’ time. Will you want to show your children and grandchildren? Do you genuinely like it, or are you just going to follow the trend because it was in a movie, magazine or a celebrity made it fashionable?

At the end of the day, it is your day and every aspect of it should be personal to you. The more comfortable you feel the more luxurious it will feel to you. So, if you have full assessed the situation and find the latest trend is personal and it’s important to you, then go with it.

Look After Your Suppliers

Many couples engage the services of their suppliers and forget to look after them on the.day. That is not however, how you get the best out of them. Yes, you are right they are being paid to be there, however by not looking after them, you will be impacting the quality and effectiveness of the service they are providing.

If you have the photographer for the entire day, but do not let them have a break or give them a drink you will likely have a very tired and dehydrated photographer who will not be able to perform to his fullest potential. By providing him with a meal as well you will have a very happy and appreciative photographer who may even be inclined to go above and beyond for you.

There are other elements which will make your day luxurious, however I have always found looking at all of the elements of your day as if they were an act helps you to see the full picture. It enables you to produce the luxury wedding celebration you have been dreaming of. By focusing on the experience and atmosphere you want to produce, you will be able to let go on the day and simply enjoy yourself. That’s what your day should be about after all.
